The Eagle Nebula (APOD 11 Jan 2007)
The Eagle Nebula (APOD 11 Jan 2007)
When one looks at the entire nebula, it's easy to see why it was called the Eagle. However, when the Hubble pic first came out showing the 'Pillars of Creation", I notice right away that the "Pillar" on the farthest left in the picture, also looks like an Eagle perched upon a post with its head turned towards us, looking over its shoulder. Has anyone else ever noticed this unique feature?

To me the one pillar looks like a hand reaching out.

What's the cause of the faint arc that sweeps thru the second star from the right in the asterism?

Forget the box, just get outside.
Nice observation! http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap070112.html I don't know either but the arc traverses the entire picture.
Maybe THAT is THE "Second star to the right" and the arc is the curved space of neverland

I wasn't going to say that, but I did have a little chuckle when I read the first post.BMAONE23 wrote:Nice observation! http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap070112.html I don't know either but the arc traverses the entire picture.

Could the arc be something 'man made' orbiting earth? It's obviously a movement that is much faster than the rotation of the earth.
Oh no. I just realised. It's Peter Pan.
