3D image of the Sun

I was having trouble seeing the 3D effect. When I checked the colors comprising the anaglyph, it appears that the Sun is rotated about 45 degrees clockwise from the baseline of the star field. To see the Sun best, try tipping your head 45 deg. to the right...

Taking your suggestion, I rotated the image to align the sun’s 3D features. Also, thanks to the incredible response (10k page loads in 24hrs) I got from this APOD, I was able to change to a more effective background. Some people out there really know their 3D!

Norval, There are other ways to view the effect without real glasses. Red and blue astronomical filters and camera gel cells will work. You can also pick up kiddie 3D glasses at a toy store.

It appears to me that the 45deg tilt is along the solar equator and the background star field was added (poorly) for effect.

Thanks, Harry! I’m glad you enjoyed the image. After the APOD ran, I was contacted by a couple of pro 3D graphics guys that gave me some incredible tips on making 3D images (see the redesigned link above).

My apologies for sounding so trite, it really did sound bad, and was only meant to reflect that I don't get much out of those 3d red/blue images.

Unfortunately in this case my almost perfect color vision gets in the way. Because of this the effect is greatly reduced for ones like me. But not to worry, the percentage of ones like me is very small. 8)

What I hope for is holographic's to get going. So in the meantime I like the good old topographical maps.
