IC 1795: The Fishhead Nebula
Explanation: To some, this nebula looks like the head of a
fish. However,
this colorful cosmic portrait really features
glowing gas and obscuring dust clouds in IC 1795, a star forming region in the northern
constellation Cassiopeia. The nebula's colors were created by adopting the
Hubble color palette for mapping narrow emission from oxygen, hydrogen, and sulfur atoms to blue, green and red colors, and further blending the data with images of the region recorded through broadband filters. Not far on the sky from the famous
Double Star Cluster in Perseus, IC 1795 is itself located next to IC 1805, the
Heart Nebula, as part of a
complex of star forming regions that lie at the edge of a large molecular cloud. Located just over 6,000
light-years away, the larger star forming complex sprawls along the Perseus spiral arm of our
Milky Way Galaxy. At that distance, this picture would span about 70 light-years across IC 1795.

The Fishhead nebula is the brightest and "outsticking" part of the Heart Nebula, and the Fishhead appears to be where the current action is.
Just one brightish star can be seen in the middle of the Fishhead, and to me it looks as if it is responsible for blowing the large cavity of the head. But
not much is known about this star.
Judging from today's APOD as well as from other pictures, the real ongoing star formation is happening in the fish's "mouth", and certainly also in the chaotic dark dust above the Fishhead, where things seem to be completely in turmoil. It looks to me as if some big things are going on in there!

Continuing with the aquatic theme, there is a seahorse above the fish head.

When we look at the nebulae; we let our imaginations take hold, and see all kind of things! Kind of like looking at clouds going by on a partial cloudy day!

To me....looks like a whole FISH.... behind the dust lane is the rest of the body...in Ann's heart nebula image, it looks like it is swimming through it....
Really bright, and detailed image...

I think it looks like a whole fish also! The sea of space gives it a lot of room to swim in!
