APOD Podcasts: 2011-present

Post by owlice » Sun Jan 10, 2016 6:39 pm

Robert M Wagner, Assistant Professor of Astronomy at HACC (Central Pennsylvania's Community College), has been creating a podcast about each day's APOD image since February 7, 2011. The entire collection is available on iTunes U; there is one collection for each year starting with 2011. He typically records the audio and uploads a podcast each morning for the current image. You can access podcasts from the links below.

2018 Collection: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/ast ... 52708?mt=2

Thank you for being willing to share my podcasts! I started these nearly 5 years ago for my intro astronomy classes and creating the podcast has become a part of my daily routine now. I hope that others here will find them useful as well!

I just wish there was a way to stream them through my browser without having to get itunes. It's pretty much the most difficult to use Apple product ever created.

You should be able to do so using the links provided. It will take you to the iTunes preview screen and if you move the pointer over a file, the number will turn into a play arrow and you can stream them that way.

It's also very easy to damage your computer if you install iTunes (I'm always helping friends who had their media and media libraries corrupted).

Here's what I do for programs that I occasionally need, but which I don't want anywhere near my computer. I installed VirtualBox (which is free), and then installed Windows on a virtual machine (it's really very simple). In that VM I install programs that I don't trust. They are trivial to run, but completely isolated from stuff that matters. With iTunes, it doesn't make it easier to use, but it does make it safer.

Thank you for posting this, and thank you so much Dr. W. for creating them. I look forward to trying them out. Have you considered approaching : Robert Nemiroff & Jerry Bonnell about providing a link on the APOD page? This might take some effort in joint agreement on content/curation, but it with a payoff off enriching APOD for lay persons considerably.

I have now added a YouTube channel containing my podcasts. This is considered a mirror site for APOD and is listed in the About APOD section. I started this channel in August of 2019 so it only includes those images and I expect to update it daily with the new video podcast. You can access the channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWksEL ... 6TiLQyjByw
