N44 superbubble in the LMC
A false-colour Hydrogen Alpha image of the N44 superbubble in the LMC. There is still much debate amongst professional astronomers as to whether N44 cavity was blown by the stellar winds of the massive cluster of stars in it centre, or is primarily created by a supernova. Probably both mechanisms have a part to play.

After an image made 2 days ago of C/2014 Q2 Lovejoy from Australia I decided to gather some more data from the background to improve the 'depth' of the image. Therefore I took 300s exposures to get more details and fainter stars in the image. Furthermore I completely reprocessed the comet data to get more details in the tail structure. I'm quite happy with this result. This image was made possible by the Tzec Maun Foundation by giving access to their FSQ106 in Siding Springs, Australia.
In the image comet Lovejoy is shown together with Messier 79, taken on Dec. 29 2014.
Exposure information:
10x300s (background)
6x60s (comet)

I took this with a non modified dslr over the course of two nights. I was astounded to see how much detail was visible, even with basic gear.

Title:
Comet Lovejoy and M79
Object/Date:
C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy) @ 2014-Dec-29
Tech data:
Takahashi FSQ-106ED refractor + SBIG STL-1100M camera (L:1×180 Bin1 + RGB:1x60 Bin2)
Description:
Comet C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy) on December 29, 2014 while passing near globular cluster M 79 into Lepus. The comet has increased its brightness until 5th magnitude meanwhile its gassy coma has extended until a diameter of 0.5 degrees (same apparent size as the Moon), the galaxy NGC 1886 is immersed up in the outside of coma. The ionic tail of the comet departs toward northeast getting out the image with a longitude higher than 2 degrees, and showing a rich structure in which highlights a disconnection to half degree from nucleus.
Location:
Remotely from Siding Spring, Australia
