Hello everyone,

I'm surprised to see I'm the first one to respond in this topic!

So, for this eclipse I went on a short canoe trip to bring all the gear at a remote camping spot, on the shore of Monroe Lake (Bloomington, IN). I was taking time lapses and I used some of the frames to make a composition.

Here are three different versions of the composition:

A few frames from another camera, next to the second canoe:

And a few more images, taken with the telescope (ED80 CF + Canon T2i):

Clear skies,

Here's a a mid-eclipse composite with the Moon and Uranus:

The sky was a bit hazy, so there was a bright halo around the Moon.
Here is a link to the full-sized version (1MB).

TMI: Canon 5D, Takahashi FSQ-106, Canon 1.4x Extender II, composite exposure of 15 seconds at 100 ISO (mid-eclipse) and 30 seconds at 800 ISO (a few minutes later).

Okay – managed to dodge the clouds which didn’t look as if they would let me in for a look at this glorious cosmic event. It was a bit of a roller coaster ride of “will the clouds clear” or “will they not”. In the end, the gods took pity on me and opened up a nice big sucker hole giving me the opportunity to focus on a star and then quickly move to the Moon to grab the shots. :)

I used a Vixen 4 inch F9 telescope with a Kenko x1.4 Converted to give me a focal length of 1280mm at F12.6.

Here is a 15 frame composition (using SNS HDR) revealing the subtle blue colouration (bottom left) which apparently is caused by the Earth’s ozone layer absorbing the red wavelengths and only letting the blue light through.

Using SNS HDR Pro, I also generated an HDR of the eclipse from 43 frames that that spanned the exposure range of 1/60 sec (ISO100) to 1 sec (ISO400) (approx. 9 stops) and the results were much better than I had expected.

Cheers

Dennis

The total lunar eclipse of October 8, 2014 was photographed among passing clouds from Lancaster, PA.

The fully eclipsed moon is seen setting behind a church steeple on October 8, 2014. This was one of the reddest eclipsed moons that I've seen in quite some time. I was fortunate that the clouds and fog cleared enough to take this shot.

Leave it to Flickr to corrupt the URLs. Here is a real, functional set of links:

Did you reupload and replace the photo with a new one? The old thumbnail URLs become obsolete when you do that.

This moon trail I made during the eclipse traces out a picture of the Earth's umbra. It is composed of about 400 HDR images.
