ESA: My Planet from Space

There are some wonderful images in this exhibition in Rome and here are a few examples for those of us not able to make it to Italy in person.
My Planet from Space: Fragility and Beauty
Rain Forest, Brazil. One of a slide show of ten images on the ESA website.

These images are just a small selection from the exhibition at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, Italy.
My Planet from Space: Fragility and Beauty takes you on a journey to some of the most beautiful and remote places on Earth. The collection of images demonstrates the fragility of our planet and the challenges posed by climate change.
Satellite eyes provide us with images of an ever-changing Earth: glaciers melting, sea levels rising, rainforests threatened by deforestation, growing desertification affecting croplands, and uncontrolled urban sprawl. They highlight the importance of spaceborne technology in the management and protection of natural resources and the global environment.

Pictures taken from the International Space Station by ESA astronaut Luca Parmitano are also on display.

The exhibition runs 30 September to 2 November.

"In those rare moments of total quiet with a dark sky, I again feel the awe that struck me as a child. The feeling is utterly overwhelming as my mind races out across the stars. I feel peaceful and serene."
