Attending a starparty is the easiest way to get into amateur astronomy community, meet other people with same expectations and have the opportunity of test a variety of instruments that would otherwise not be possible. Many of us arrive to astronomy thanks to friends found in a starparty. One will take place next weekend, bringing together more than 300 amateurs from Europe to Spain.

The Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute will be holding its annual star party in conjunction with this years 50th anniversary of the Rosman Tracking Station. Originally purposed for communications during the Apollo missions, the site served several years as an NSA listening post, and has now been repurposed as a radio observatory and science educational and outreach center. Much of the original infrastructure remains in place, and PARI hosts a museum of NASA artifacts and a collection of meteorites, as well as a repository of historical astronomical glass plate archives.

Not really a star party, but seems like a good place to post this.
