NGC 2170: Still Life with Reflecting Dust

Explanation: In this beautiful celestial still life composed with a cosmic brush, dusty nebula NGC 2170 shines at the upper left. Reflecting the light of nearby hot stars, NGC 2170 is joined by other bluish reflection nebulae, a compact red emission region, and streamers of obscuring dust against a backdrop of stars. Like the common household items still life painters often choose for their subjects, the clouds of gas, dust, and hot stars pictured here are also commonly found in this setting - a massive, star-forming molecular cloud in the constellation of the Unicorn (Monoceros). The giant molecular cloud, Mon R2, is impressively close, estimated to be only 2,400 light-years or so away. At that distance, this canvas would be about 15 light-years across.

WOW, glad I stayed up to admire this sight

Yeah, ya got to see the orange eyed blue headed dust monster at work.

Sci-Fi B Movie...."Cosmic Shadowman VS Nebulus: The Thing from Beyond Space"...the plot is thin, but the action is sometimes good. Great Cinematography. A fairly good Human Story line, with a good climactic ending, but suffers from a slow, dragging middle and several plot lines that seem to go nowhere, and bad English dubbing....3 of 5 stars.....1 and a half thumbs up....

speaking of brooms, I am beginning not to like those small CFL spiral lights. I thought I was doing the Earth some good. I am gonna go LED's .

I assume that the red emission nebula has a name, so I would be grateful if someone could please tell me as I have not been readily able to find out.
