Space Traveler - Acrylic and ink on acetate with a background photographic print... My rendition of Ed White's
1965 spacewalk... The image was drawn with black ink on one side and painted on the opposite side with acrylic in the fashion of early
animation cel production.

30 Doradus Region within the Large Magellanic Cloud
Our nearby galaxy (after Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy) is one of the marvelous sight of the southern sky. First spotted by Persian astronomers and afterwards by Amerigo Vespucci, but it was by Ferdinand Magellan on his voyage in 1519 who brought it to popularity.
Like many irregular galaxies the LMC is very rich in dust and HII regions. Right now is under a intense process of star formation activity.

Earthshine over the Cathedral City
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... 3072378987
Copyright: Dr Miruna Popescu
Mixed media (watercolour, pastels, acrylics)
This is a painting of the night sky over the city of Armagh.
When the crescent moon is thin, we sometimes see the light from our planet reflected on the moon's shaded side, in a phenomenon called "earthshine”, first proposed by Leonardo da Vinci.
In the picture, you can also see Venus (bottom left) and Jupiter (above the Roman Catholic cathedral), the brightest star-looking objects in the night sky. Notice also that some stars look more blue (the very hot ones) or more red (the cooler ones). When visible, Venus is always seen after sunset or before sunrise, as it is so close to the Sun.
