Active Region Profile

SDO watched as an energetic active region continued to rotate into a position at the right edge of the Sun that gave us a profile view of its looping and spurting (Sept. 12-14, 2012). The images were produced by combining two wavelengths of extreme ultraviolet light. The loops are actually particles tracing magnetic field lines extending from below the Sun's surface. Most of the activity seen is being driven by the interaction of competing magnetic forces. The activity in the clip covers two days.
