I use a drawing pattern with lightgray sun. I draw the prominences, sunspots and
filaments with graphite pencil. For the active regions and flares i use the knife to
scrape the gray color off. On this away I can hold finest details.

Kind regards,

Michael Wendl

Often called the small rosette due to its resemblance to the original,
this small Sharpless object is five times smaller in size and much less
bright than the Rosette Nebula. Therefore it is not a common imaging target.
Total exposure time was 31 hours.

I just have time for some very quick comments here.

I totally, completely love Alex Cherney's Moonlit Aurora Australis. It's truly magical to see the Magellanic Clouds look almost exactly like pale water vapour clouds in the Earth's atmosphere. And yet, despite the moonlight, the Milky Way band is seen very clearly and well resolved. And then there is the pink aurora australis near the horizon. How magical and beautiful! :D

There are many other fine "Milky Way and Earth" images here. Yuri Beletsky's Stellar Bridge Above the VLT is beautifully detailed and very pleasingly colored.

And Luis Argerich's Milky Way, Comet Lovejoy, and the Large Magellan Cloud is delightful. It looks as if the LMC has spouted a kind of tail! :D

And Wally Pacholka is of course a mainstay here, and he always produces fantastic images. His Winter Milky Way over Zabriskie Point in Death Valley is wonderful. And since I'm fond of annotated images, I really like Jimmy Westlake's Orion & Company.

I'm not usually very interested in black and white images, but I find Terry Hancock's Horse Drawn To Water completely magical. It is a reminder that a lot of water has been found in and around the Orion Nebula!

I just love Emil Ivanov's Sh2-170 image, too. The Rosette Nebula, indeed. I love how the shape is similar to the Rosette, but this nebula only has one hot star blowing a hole in the center of the nebula, whereas the real Rosette has several hot O-type giants.

I love the fantastic deep blue Earth shadow rising below the pale pink Belt of Venus in Dean Salman's image.

There are very many other splendid images here, but unfortunately I have no more time to comment. Thanks to everyone who posted images here! :D

Ann
