This image of asteroid 2005 YU55 is a composite of a series of eleven 30-second exposures made with the telescope tracking on the stellar background. The asteroid left a series of streaks as it moved during each time exposure.

Here is an image which was posted in an earlier version a few months ago. Now RGB data was added to introduce real star colors instead of the hubble palette colors...

In total the following exposures were made:

Ha: 6x1800s (ED80 4,5nm Custom scientific)/6x1800s (FSQ85 5nm astrodon)
OIII: 7x1800s (FSQ85 5nm astrodon)
SII: 7x1800s (FSQ85 5nm astrodon)

RGB:
4 hours canon 40D + 300mm lens
8 hours Tak 85 with reducer and ATIK 4000 and Ha 7nm
4 hours Tak 85 with H35 and Ha 7nm

So a total of 29 hours of data was used for this image from 4 different types of telescopes/cameras.

Full Moon over the Santa Vittoria Castle

Please find below an image of the yestreday's Full Moon (taken on November 10, 2011). After days and days of heavy rain in the northwestern region of Italy, fortunately the sky cleared up and I have been able to admire the majestic Full Moon rising over the tower of the Santa Vittoria d’Alba Castle (some 60 km from Turin).

The 97 Switchbacks at Night by Kurt Lawson, on Flickr

4.5 hour long star trail shot on the Mount Whitney Trail in the Eastern Sierras. A lantern lights up the trail through the infamous 97 switchbacks. The wild color is what the Provia film picked up from the first few hours of starlight followed by the rise of a half moon.

There were some really great asteroid, sunspot, solar prominences and Moon images here. Thank you, all of you, I enjoyed all your images! Although I must say that I particularly, particularly enjoyed your Moon over Prague images, David!

Two other total favorites of mine in this thread are your two images, Manuel Jimenez. I love the "soft texture" of your M33 and M27 images, and I love how this "soft texture" of a multitude of old adn intermediate population stars and arcs of gas is combined with sharply resolved details. The colors are lovely, too. Your narrowband Bubble Nebula image is also very beautiful.

The same combination of "soft texture gas and old population stars" and sharply resolved bright stars is obvious in your LMC and Tarantula Nebula image, José Joaquín Pérez, and again I find it very beautiful. Your Tarantula Nebula is interestingly blue. It should contain quite a bit of blue-green OIII emission and reflected blue starlight.

Brendan Alexander, thanks for posting the colorful pair, Mars and Regulus!

Emil Ivanov, I really like your super-cute Baby Eagle, and I love your VdB 14 and VdB 15 starscape even better. The fantastic colors almost knock me out!!

Thanks for your natural color image of NGC 7380, Siegfried Kohlert! Your picture is very beautiful, and it is fascinating to see the large "blister" on the nebula at almost dead center of the image.

Kurt Lawson, your 97 Switchback image looks like a striking and beautiful work of modern art.

Thanks for your Double Cluster image, Rafael Rodriguez! It is very well resolved, and the colors are so pleasing.

Again, thanks to everyone who posted pictures here! :D

Ann
