"Rivers of craters" on Mercury

Post by JohnD » Thu Jun 30, 2011 7:03 pm

There have been heated discussions on the Asterisk on the origin of crater chains, and their ability to form 'grooves' (See Phobos). The caption to this Messenger picture http://messenger.jhuapl.edu/gallery/sci ... age_id=540 points this out, but also labels them as secondary craters.

Is this as likely as original, string-of-pearls crater chains, especially on a body as close to a really massive object as the Sun itself?
