Saturn with its (NED) storms trailing path has created a trough of darker materials (gas) and the moon Dione could be seen also.

Re: Recent Submissions
There are many great images here. My favorite is Robert Arn's Geometer's Playground. Fantastic. It could be the setting of a fantasy film: amazingly real, but surrealistic. Very beautiful, too.

Re: Recent Submissions
I don't often comment on the images I post; I sometimes fear it's a little unfair of me to do so. I have to say, though, that it is a privilege to see and post these. Just look at this thread! It's full of magnificent images! And Robert Arn, of the images I've posted of yours, this last one is hands-down my favorite. It's stunning.
Please everyone, click to view the largest images. I sometimes have to reduce the size (or resolution or even quality, darn it!) of images to post them here, so even with clicking, you may not get the full impact of the original, but at least see them as large as I can post them! The small display size is a necessary compromise; bigger is definitely better for viewing.
Photographers all, thank you so much for sharing your gorgeous work! I am in awe of your patience, talent, and excellent eye, and am so very glad I get to see what you capture! Thank you!

The night of June 2 was darker than others since the partial solar eclipse had weakened the light of Sun and twilight glow. These two pictures were made in the same place (Borok village near Yaroslavl, 250 km northwards from Moscow, Russia) with the same camera and exposure at the same time in the midnights of June 1 and 2. The right one is remarkably darker, making the W-like Cassiopeia stars in the center easy to see.

I really love the mixture of hyper-realism and fantasy in your image. All the individual details are correct, but they are put together in a way that can only happen in a Geometer's playground! Like someone pointed out, it's like a mixture of Van Gogh and Escher - and then there is an awful lot of hard astronomy work that went into the making of the image too, I'm sure.

Re: Recent Submissions
You're welcome, and thank you for sharing it (and others, too, of course). I find something very appealing about the stillness of the image, so still even the splash and ripples are calmed by it. And that thinnest sliver of moon is too thin and shallow to catch the planets (they'd roll right out, or break through!), though it seems to want to.RobertArn wrote:Why thank you!
