Time Lapse Clouds and Sky Over the Canary Islands

Explanation: If you could sit back and watch clouds and the sky move all night and day, what might you see? One answer from the island of Tenerife, captured over the course of the year, includes sequences that are not only breathtaking but instructive. Visible in the above time-lapse movie include clouds that seem to flow like water, a setting sun that shows numerous green flashes, the Milky Way Galaxy rising behind towering plants, a colorful double fogbow, lenticular clouds that appear stationary near their mountain peaks, and colorful moon coronas. The above video was shot solely from the Teide National Park on Tenerife in the Canary Islands of Spain, off the north west coast of Africa. The video also features an unusual type of plant in several scenes -- can you identify it?

Must be a relative of the endemic Haleakala Silversword, only found on Maui. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haleakal%C4%81_Silversword

The Hawaiian varieties are of the genus Argyroxiphium, but they are all part of the family Asteraceae--ironically kind of close in spelling to Asterisk.

I admit defeat, but you gotta admit the name being close to Asterisk was cool. Oh well, I tried.

The mysterious plant is called the Red Tajinastes, found on the slopes of Mt. Teide, Teneriffe, Canary Islands.

At 2:31 you can see the Andromeda Galaxy in the upper left hand corner.

The plant is Echium pininana, a member of the Boraginaceae family.

They are prehistoric, endangered, and are from the laurel forests there. Spanish ships in the late 1800's brought seeds to the coast of central and northern california. my mother has them in her victorian aged garden up in the redwoods. they grow up to 30 + feet during wet warm winters there...just amazing !!!

echium pininana is blue, echium wildpretii is red. these looked red

Wow...what a nice video. This one gets bookmarked and the link sent out for sure. I thought it looked like a silver-sword as well, except they only grow in Hawaii...echium wildpreti you say.

Around 2:55 or so, the clouds 'flowing' down the mountains reminded me of Niagara Falls. In other parts of the video they reminded me of the ocean, the way they moved and churned.
And of course the skies throughout the video were pretty incredible!

This video is absolutely incredible. The music brought the beauty and glory of nature that might have otherwise been missed.

I guessed echium wildpretii too

The video was lovely - really inspiring, and the music complemented it - very mellow.

Me, too! And it makes sense that they look like flowing/moving water, because that's exactly what they are: water!
