It's an unsolved problem. But that isn't to say there aren't good ideas on the matter. Probably most solar physicists believe the heating is produced by collapsing electric currents in the corona, those currents being induced by the Sun's magnetic field. what is the reason? What could be the reason?
Why would the electric currents have to collapse ?
