Hello :D

Welcome to a little game: “WHO KNOWS THE GREAT INTRUDER?”

This game deals with anonymous, but famous faces and quotations, in History of Astronomy.

Sometimes, I will give you:

4 anonymous, but great astronomers (portraits), along with clues! Some could be physicians, who made at least one important discovery in astronomy. Who are they?
+
1 anonymous, but famous “intruder” (portrait), also along with clues! This “intruder” could be: a navigator, a biologist, a philosopher, or an artist. Who is he/she?
+
1 anonymous quotation; if it comes from a book, I will give you clues. Who wrote it for the first time?

If you like this game, please associate portraits (A, B, C, D) with clues (1, 2, 3, 4).

Be careful :) , it might be a little difficult. Indeed, many astronomers belonged to other fields than Astronomy… I insist that the Great Intruder is not an Astronomer; he made no discovery in Astronomy.
If anyone wants to add portraits of astronomers, or quotations, it would be great, but please begin with easy ones, because I would like to be able to find the key!!

Actually, if you don't find out who is the Great Intruder, i will give you more clues.
And if you find the solution... I am sorry but don't expect chocolate, because we are a little too far away

Let’s start…

STEP 1 (easy!!):

Clues 1: An American Astronomer
He demonstrated the existence of other galaxies than the Milky Way.
He observed a red shift of the spectrum of various galaxies: he showed those galaxies were moving away from themselves, with a velocity proportional to their distance… So he discovered the expansion of the Universe.
His family name was given to a telescope which made so beautiful pictures!

Clue 2: Renaissance Astronomer, Doctor and Priest from Poland.
He spoke fluent Latin, German, and Polish. He spoke Greek and Italian. First defender of the heliocentric theory: the Sun would be at the center of the Universe, and the Earth turns around it.

Clue 3: German Astronomer.
He studied the heliocentric hypothesis of ANOTHER PORTRAIT. He suggested planets where moving on elliptic orbits. He found out laws of planetary motion.

Clue 4: Renaissance Sculptor, painter, poet, architect, from Italy
He painted “The Last Judgment” on the altar wall of the Sistine Chapel, in Rome.

Clue 5: An English Astronomer, Mathematician, Physician, Philosopher, Alchemist, Theologian!! His book “Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica“ gives three famous laws of motion, in classical mechanics. He described universal gravitation.

Do you know who wrote this quotation for the first time?
QUOTATION : “Eppur, si muove !”, which means “But she is moving!”

The five portraits don't belong to me : the credit is WIKIPEDIA.
