Policy on religion on these boards

There have just been several posts in the "Discuss an Astronomy Picture of the Day" forum where posters have either praised the beauty of God's work or discussed whether multiple universes might be a consequence of God's work.

Have the people who made these posts been warned?

If I had said that we could conclude from the science underlying an APOD that God doesn't exist, I would surely have been warned.

In the late 1990s I read an interview with a football player in New York who complained that people were suspicious of him because he was a Muslim. "Being a Muslim is almost as bad in this country as being an atheist," he said.

That's when I realized that I would be Public Enemy Number One if I ever moved to the United States, so it's a good thing that I plan to stay in Sweden.

But I would appreciate it if the support of religion was as frowned upon on these boards as the rejection of religion.

Although scientists are not certain about what created the universe? the big bang is a theory, and without that certainty, talk of parallel universes I think it's a true excess.
Speaking of God, is also talk of a theory, faith does not prove it's existence.
But religious people are inquisitive, because scientists have not reached the degree (doctorate) to create hope.
After that I have trouble with both preachers, of faith and science.

There is a built in mechanism () for reporting posts if you think any particular post violates the spirit of the rules, but the discussion of moderator actions in the open forum is a violation of those rules. Report a post if you feel it is in violation, but do not discuss or suggest moderator action on the board.

I do not feel simple statements of faith violate the spirit of the rules. Prosthelytizing and discussion of religious viewpoints are against the spirit of the rules, as are deliberately caustic remarks and denigrating of others beliefs.

I have been a bit irritated at the rules here at Starship Asterisk*, but rules are rules, and bystander spelled them out clearly enough in his post. I have nothing to add.

The big bang is a theory in the same sense as gravity or evolution.

Speaking of God, is also talk of a theory, faith does not prove it's existence.
