Electron Microscope Image of Sphere on Plank

Hello Starship!
I'm looking for an old APOD image produced by what I assume was an electron microscope which depicted a human-made, nano-sized sphere on a plank. The description of the image explained how this experiment helped demonstrate that the universe was expanding. At least... this is what I recall... My faulty memory is why I seek out this knowledge. If anyone can help me locate the actual image, or simply explain or name the experiment/experimenters. I would be very much indebted!
