UFO: United Filkers of Ontario

The United Filkers of Ontario is an informal group of people who like to listen, sing, play and/or write songs about space and science fiction and fantasy (Filk). Filk songs can be original, beautiful and moving, like Karen Linsley and Lloyd Landa's "Pioneers of Mars", awarded first place in the Mars Society's Rouget de Lisle songwriting competition. Tom Jeffers wrote "The Face on Mars" based on the outcrop on Mars, around the time John Glenn went back into space at the age of 77. There is also "found filk" like Chris de Burgh's "Discovery" or David Bowie's "A Space Oddity". Other songs are to the tune of popular songs and, of course, many songs are about cats, chocolate or our favourite SF novels.
The UFO group is centered around Toronto, but there are filkers in many other countries, and filkers are typically friendly, caring and open. Here's a link to our web page: http://www.filkontario.ca/ufo/ufo.html
In particular, I wrote "Shepherd Moon" after I read on APOD about the effect of her moons on Saturn's rings.
