I was driving on Colorado State Highway 74 North of Evergreen (don't remember if I was leaving (North) or approaching (South)). Along side the road runs Bear Creek. I was coasting in 3rd gear (4 speed w/overdrive) to keep the car slowed down to 40 mph (and still had to tap the brakes). Obviously, I was going downhill, but the water in the creek was running the opposite direction, uphill. Weird.rstevenson wrote:See the amazing Magnetic Hill!
could it be wind or something?bystander wrote:but the water in the creek was running the opposite direction
There are sections like that on US 50 along the Arkansas River, between the Royal Gorge and Salida, Colorado. Heading west, you are certainly going up. And the river is flowing down behind you, as is obvious from the rafters on it. But there are stretches of road that actually go downhill for a bit, even though the topography strongly gives the illusion that you are still going up. The opposite happens on other stretches- you feel like you are going down, even though you are really going up. It leads to a kind of disconnect between the senses and what you are doing with the accelerator or brake.bystander wrote:I was driving on Colorado State Highway 74 North of Evergreen (don't remember if I was leaving (North) or approaching (South)).
