Please suggest good APODs to rerun

Post by RJN » Tue May 11, 2010 5:27 pm

Asterickians are invited to suggest which old APOD I should rerun this coming Sunday. Did I say "rerun"? I meant "feature best of". Anyway, as alert APOD readers might know, APOD is prone to rerun images on weekends, and in particular on Sundays. Reasons why are explained in the APOD FAQ. So I am wondering which APOD to rerun this Sunday. This is actually an opportunity to "refresh" one of the good older APODs, showing it off to new APOD readers, refreshing the links, updating the text, and possibly even including a larger version of the image.

Suggestions should be APODs that are at least one year old. That way no APODs are repeated in any given year. "Points" are given for concept pop, image pop, text pop (somewhat rare), oldness, not being rerun very often previously, and adding needed diversity to the past week's APODs. Ideally, I would like several suggestions after which I might run them off in a poll. Last, please do not be insulted if your APOD rerun suggestion is not taken.

http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap050317.html -- has run only once
http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap050318.html -- has run only once, and also because the crescent moon will be visible this weekend

Oooo! Never mind my suggestions; go with this one as suggested by canopia! It's perfect! Has appeared only one, crescent moon, occulting Venus, and very pretty, too -- it's got everything!!

In view of recent research, A3827: Galactic Cannibal (1998 Aug 31) might deserve a rerun.

Thanks, canopia, and everyone. I am checking out the coming occultation of Venus by the Moon and might go with a related APOD image. - RJN
