Yup. Wow, that was quick. Maybe this is too easy.
Does anyone know of an easy way that people can post their answer, yet hide it, perhaps behind a mouse-over, so that others can continue to guess?

I went ahead and set the spoiler button to visible on the bbcode tag row.
Just call me "geck" because "zilla" is like a last name.
What is it? Space mystery object #3
Please, if you can, identify the APOD from which this image fragment was taken.
Re: What is it? Space mystery object #3
Obviously, It's the Doomsday Machine "Planet Killer" from the original Star Trek series
Re: What is it? Space mystery object #3
Yes, Mark is correct. Very good! The pictured area is a small region toward the right of the image just short of half way up. Mark got it in two hours -- and I thought that one might be too hard!
Mark, would you like to do the next one? Maybe we can have an informal rule where the winner gets to post the next mystery object (within a reasonable time frame). The other rule I would like to keep is that the image must be either a complete APOD image or an APOD image fragment, so that the answer can just be given as an APOD link. (Then people who don't know can just read that APOD to find out about the object.)

It strongly resembles a cross between Vesta and Wild's Nucleus
Re: What is it? Space mystery object #4
I'm stumped. I was thinking one of the asterioid Steins images:

but it doesn't seem to match up. Can we have a small hint?

You want a hint. No Probs.

You did post the correct answer first. Just remember, it has to be from an APOD, not some free association.

Or a piece of an APOD...that leaves LOTS of possibilities.bystander wrote:You did post the correct answer first. Just remember, it has to be an APOD, not some free association.
