The description for the photo of the Omega Centauri globular cluster says that Alpha Centauri is the star closest to our sun. I was under the impression that Proxima Centauri was a fraction of light year closer than Alpha Centauri.

Well, technically Proxima is the closer star. I guess it's usually considered part of the Alpha Centauri system, though.
