The APOD image itself doesn't resolve these bright stars into multiples - I even examined the diffraction spikes closely to see if they are doubled; they are not. The exposure is simply too deep and the multiple stars are lost in the flare. I finally did find a link to a (much less impressive otherwise) Hubble image that actually resolves WR25 into two stars: http://www.spacetelescope.org/images/ht ... 0822c.html

Also, it's worth noting that the linked (large) JPEG image is saved with a color profile (Lstar-RGB) that is not sRGB, meaning most folks won't see the (false) colors exactly as intended, since Internet Explorer is not a color-managed application. May I respectfully suggest that the APOD editors convert to sRGB before saving the images for best presentation.

By the way, I never realized that when I drive under the speed limit all those folks in the city are making Heavenly gestures at me! NASA/ESA describe this as a "defiant" finger.

Is the bright red star in the image among the reddist stars? It seems even redder than the binocular red star in Cetus.

Is it possible to enlarge this APOD photo? just to the right of the main huge stars in the Gas/dust cloud there are three balls I,d like to take a closer look at. they are very small. is it possible these are stars in the making?

The 'defiant' finger was actually a 'make love not war' signal used by us hippies until it was misinterpreted through the Hollywood movie of what's his name and what's his name riding their hogs through America and getting shotgunned (12 or 14 guage style not smoke style) by the redneck pickup truck driver. Who have you folks been hangin' around with?!!?? If you must know, it's DEFINITLY a wormhole finger puppet.

Follow the pointing finger to the center of the photo. there are two clumps of gas/dust one of which looks like a sea horse. in between those gas/dust clumps you will see 6 round masses 4 are very small. Take a close look at the small ones they have a halo, but i can only see them in the original APOD photo. The finger resembles the blobs in those lamps which have oil floating in water .. 'lava lamps?'
