The Astronomy Picture of the Day for 2008 August 9, titled Aurora Persei, is disappointing, because it is the same as The Astronomy Picture of the Day for 2006 August 11, titled Perseid in the Light. I recognized it immediately, because it is one of my wallpapers. I did not even have any difficulty finding the duplicate; I simply searched on the credited name "Westlake", so I worry that whoever chooses these marvelous pictures is/are getting lazy.
My sad reaction shows how interesting and entertaining APOD is at other times. I have set up my computer to access APOD anew each morning before I awaken, and the result is often a fascinating subject for discussion, or email to friends, during the ensuing day.

I don't mind that an APOD is repeated from time to time. It gives new viewers a chance to give fresh opinions and new ideas on a subject. There are plenty of new photos that keep me interested.
