Hi,
I am hoping one of you can help me with locating the original picture of the day - or even a way to locate it in the archives of NASA pics. The original name is M9YeILmd-i8pLA8iQocVSvC2S-QOQw7sv2_jeqH9Tt1yqEnFq-W7UQWpQr1fkWvD.jpg - is there anything in this name that would help to locate the original picture.
Thanks very much for any help you can give with this!

That name is pretty meaningless to me. Perhaps if you told us a little more about the picture. What was the subject matter? When was it an APOD?
Apodman, I wonder what the message was for the 1960s
Oui Captain Jet Decoder Ring, and what kind of ring it was.

I have a copy of this pic 4k on my desktop - is there a way to upload and include with the post? Maybe someone will recognize the picture and point me to the date originally posted.

The above is the url for the APOD archives. If your picture is an APOD it should be on the list. You said original picture. Do you mean the first APOD? Your numbers and letters have little meaning; even when I placed them in Google search. I could not find anything.

Here's the original provided by
oceanpoetry (96x96 pixels):
Here's an enlargement (192x192 pixels):
I would start my
APOD search with
nebula, but the results say:
'Astronomy Picture of the Day
Search Results for "nebula"
Found 844 items.
Displaying 200 of them.'
Okay, but there's no link to the other 644 items not displayed. I'm disappointed in
that feature. Happy hunting.

Both the trifid nebula and Key hole nebula have similar looking features as the image posted by apodman

thanks for your help everyone! I found the original using the archive that shows a monthly index of photos - it was posted March 12, 2008.

Thank you for finding additional information about this image - that is really interesting! 160,000 light years again - that is amazing!
