Seen the latest image of the caves (holes) in Mars? It is sure a good thing that this wasn't Opportunities "Hole in One" location!

Wow. What a big base it can make if we enclose it :) . Assuming it is strong enough to not collaps elsewhere. Reinforcement of it might be needed.

Yes, this image is a good one I think too.

But I think there are much better places to build a base "in" Mars.

Looking at the image, It appears like the hole goes down in steps. Almost like a passage for giants, or great Dune Worms.

The almost smooth inside rim gives it an almost man-made appearance. Probably a vent hole; but I would like to see the hole underneath. :)

it dosen't seem like any meteorite or asteroid has dug this hole that is if the ground was not thick enough to tolerate the impact.

Souds to me like the next probe should include a lighter than air craft to float down into these caves and investigate.

I think it will be pretty hard to make one lighter than martian air.

Kind of ironic no?
We “supposedly” evolve from cave dwellers and here we are searching for caves again, only on another rock. Moreover, to possibly use as a living space at some time in the future and on top of that, because they might harbor some type of life already.

I don't know about living in those... they seem like scary vertical shafts! I think I'd rather live in a place where wheels aren't useless. Still, I really wonder how deep they are and what lies at the bottom. Rocks? Lava? Some kind of liquid? Sarlacc?

was trying to "stare in the darkness" for a while, and found that inverting colors actually help a bit:

Hah, I tried that too. Unfortunately very, very little is revealed from toying with the shadow. :(

Maybe if a photo were taken JUST of the inside without the surrounding, relatively bright land. Otherwise it's just like trying to take a photo of the inside of a house from the outside on a sunny day.

I see 4 or 5 shelves going down before it gets too dark

Indeed, I believe that is exactly the case BMAONE23.…………
Such as the type left behind when a water table is receding, hope there is some liquid H2O left down there.
This leads to the question. Name for a bottle of Martian water?
Arrow head…..Mountain spring water.
Perrier….. French imported water is it?
Martian water……Hmmmm,

you can reveal anything from noise, for example martian city:

Hello All

Mars Meadow water.

Deep spring

===================

Its funny that we are discussing water.

What else is there to discuss?

Every time we open our mouths, we get a bag over it.

That's not the whole martian city, that's just the airport.

Couldn’t agree with you more Harry, none the less it would seem that city’s and airports “ On Mars “ Is quite open for discussion. That’s way out.
Red rock - water
War water “ Mars god of war per-se “
Deep crater - water
Water hole - water
Hole in one - water

Hello THX1138

Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink.

Keep smiling.

I took Nerieds advice and went to other forums to discuss alternative cosmology if there is a word like that.

Amazing discussions, I'm learning things that I had closed mind over.

Take a look at this place (and some background) to see what happens when you don't.

I think commas should be used for any kind of help in convayance of thought that one wants to, , hmmmmm?

CC, absolutely,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, btw, did you noticed how coma chains look just like crater chains? And since coma chains are clearly artificial, it actually proves your theory,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,NOT

Actually CS crater chains are a "natural" occurrence in all places on earth. They have been naturally created since explosives were invented. To "blow" ditches into the terrain for irrigation as an example. Then
for use in war as the result of automatic firing weapons. (The machine gun.) And, finally today, as a multiple warhead delivery vehicle for modern high yield atomic weapons that can create concise systematic lines of craters, or to different cities in a region. These are "natural" where intelligent life has been.

Norval
