To find the specifics of an object with only a known location? Like this:

yes the sdss navigate tool you included

http://cas.sdss.org/dr6/en/tools/chart/navi.asp

(edit: the explore tool gives all available SDSS information on the selected object. photometry, spectra, redshift)

and the Nasa Extra-galactic Database (NED)

http://nedwww.ipac.caltech.edu/

the latter gives all availbale data on a region or object you specify and is an excellent resource for professional astronomers
