humbling
I look at APOD each day to help me keep my perspective in life, to help me to remember how insignificant my worldly troubles are. I am only a tiny speck of dust in the vastness of the beautifully cosmos. The APOD has a humbling effect.

I look at APOD every day and am amazed at the immensity of my power.
Of all the life forms on this planet, this little ape can sit at his desk and inspect the cosmos from a distance that would take a billion lifetimes to travel, even at the speed of light. I can comprehend all that is mine to comprehend and have at my beck and call all of the forces known to control this immensity.
I can fashion and control the power of the sun. I can create and fashion life and I am the Angel of Death. This little ape has taken this world for its own and now is escaping even its bounds.
From the smallest object to the greatest, from the weakest force to the most powerful, this ape seeks to know it and control it. We are like Gods to the others we share this planet with yet we rarely behave with responsibility towards those over whom we hold ultimate power.
I look at APOD every day and am amazed that this arrogant little ape is allowed to flex its God like powers without any attempt at exercising any equally Godlike self control, responsibility or respect for other less fortunate life forms.
I look at APOD every day and I am worried and saddened - we are the bully in the School playground with no adults to teach us to respect our powers.

And Derek said 'Let there be light' and there was light.

I look at APOD every day and marvel at what is out there.
I am also thankful that websites such as this help to redress the balance of truly awful websites such as pornography and casinos and vicious hatred and viagra and all the other rubbish that is freely posted out there.
We are indeed flawed as a race but some of us strive to be less flawed than we could be.
And I'm thankful for that, at least. Thanks APOD.
Regards,
Andy.
