Eta Carinae.

Hi,

I was wondering if Eta Carinae. does supernova is it the case that we wont know about it for however many light years it is away? So could it have already exploded yet we cant detect it?

If ETA were to SN today, we wouldn't see it as such for approx 8500 years in the year 10,507a.d. If it occured 8500 years ago, we could see it happen tomorrow.
