Atacama Desert Milky Way and Gegenshein

I captured this all-sky view of the Southern Milky Way with a unique feature, which is the dim white glow to the left of the Milky Way known as Gegenshein. This glow is not a cloud, but actually dust within the path of Sun being illuminated. Experiencing this phenomenon is done by visiting dark-sky locations. This phenomenon is part of the Zodiacal Band called Gegenshein, or anti-shine, because the Sun is on the opposite side of the Earth illuminating the dust. Also visible in this large mosaic is light pollution on the horizon and also light orange airglow caused by chemical reactions within the upper atmosphere.
