I love it!
Because I am a diehard fan of stars that are not only blue but intrinsically bright as well, Gamma Cas is obviously a favorite of mine. And because of my love of Gamma Cas, I pay rather close attention to any picture of this star, as well as any portraits of its accompanying nebulas, IC 59 and IC 63. I can say without a doubt that I have never seen what you reveal in your picture.
Although the power of Gamma Cas is many orders of magnitudes weaker than the full blast of cluster NGC 602 in the Small Magellanic Cloud, I think I can see some similarities in the shapes of the surrounding nebulas. In both cases, the stars have carved out a cavity, and the ionized and glowing gases hanging down like a lip or a curtain.
Olly and Tom, your image is brilliant, that's all I can say!
Ann
Thanks for your reply Ann, glad you like the image.

Two nights ago, there was a brief but pretty cool Northern Lights display in Lofoten. For some reason, I decided to shoot about 90 degrees in azimuth from the main show. And then BAM! this -8 magnitude fireball streaked across the sky. There was a bit of fragmenting towards the end.

The colors of Crux

Slightly out of focus capture of Crux.
The most southern localized and brightest star is the blue-white Alpha Crucis or Acrux, followed by four other stars, their clockwise order coinciding with descending magnitude. They are Beta, Gamma (one of the closest to Earth red giants), Delta and Epsilon Crucis. This latter star is a Class K3III, an orange giant located about 228 light-years from Earth. Fireball over Saint Barthelemy Star Party
A very bright fireball (m=-6) over the annual Star Party of Saint Barthelemy, the biggest event in Italy, with dozens of telescopes, caravans, tents. A big wow by all amateurs cut the silence of the night. The fireball ended just above the dome of the Saint Barthelemy Observatory, with a path starting in the Milky Way. On the left the profile of the Alps, and the light pollution of the city Aosta. The author is barely visible on the lower left on the grass with his friends, observing just in the right direction!

Hi,
here is a 4-panel mosaic of the North America nebula region comprising 74 hrs of exposure.
The image covers also the beautiful elongated dark cloud LDN 914 just south of NGC 7000 and IC 5070.
