360 Degree Startrails Panorama Copyright: György Soponyai
Sunday evening I travelled to the peak of Kab Mountain near Veszprém in Hungary in order to observe the setting crescent Moon, the Geminids and do some "recreational" nightscape photographing under clear skies as Budapest (where I'm living) has been obscured by fog for weeks. This 360 degree startrail picture is a result of almost four hours of exposure dominated by the two broadcasting towers of the Mountain.
Photo details: 2015.12.13. Kab Mountain, Hungary
Canon EOS 5D Mark II + Sigma EF 8/4.
140 x 100sec, F4, ISO2000
Mosaic from IC348 to NGC1333
3 panel mosaic. Total exposure time about 26h!
Moravian G2-8300 on Esprit80.
Imaged at my lightpolluted observatory near
vienna / international airport.

The Village Colors
The humidity is well known per the astrophotographers, because is one of our worst enemies, but in this case the light pollution of the small village combined with the high humidity and the low temperatures has done possible to see this curious effect of lighting columns in the atmosfere. The small village of Saldes have a 300 population and it is located 1215 altitude in the base of Pedraforca (2506 mt altitude) that is one of the most emblematic mountains of Catalonia-Spain.
Equipment: Sony A7S, Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM, 10 seconds ISO 6400.
Here are two pictures of Geminids made on December 14th between 10:30 p.m. & 0:30 from the volcano area in Reunion Island.
The first shows a twenty small meteors over Mauritius which can be seen between the clouds. The plan is pretty tight because photographed with a 85mm lens.
On the second, fireballs, larger sizes, are moving towards the Milky Way near the Carina Nebula. Photographed at 35mm.
Totality ("Virtual Reality") Copyright: György Soponyai
This "virtual reality" photo is my first experiment in playing with the just-launched Flickr VR tool. I didn't expect to reuse the original photo such a way so that the bottom is missing as I positioned my camera slightly upwards in order to have some overlapping in the zenith as I tried to capture any potential auroras in the sky as well.
The photo was taken on the first minute of the totality of the solar eclipse at the shore of Greenland Sea near Longyearbyen Airport.
(by clicking on the photo the VR app should be started)
