Thors Helmet.
NGC 2359 is a large emission nebula with a large giant hot Wof Rayet star driving the emissions and creating the shockwave with the surrounding molecular cloud.
Taken at my observatory in Kurrajong NSW Australia. This bicolour image (Ha and O111) shows the nebula in its intricasies.

Voyager 3 Project - Side by side
Posted: Thu Jun 19, 2014 12:32 pm

We made a follow up short movie
https://vimeo.com/98629249 to our previous longer version
https://vimeo.com/98291257 , where we have put the Voyager 1 and our Voyager 3 sequences side by side.
We adapted both the inflight direction and the position of the Great Red Spot (GRS) so they would match and compare more easily.
The most noticeable difference is how much smaller the Great Red Spot has become in 35 years that separate the sequences.
The left sequence represents 28 earth days whilst our is taken over 90 days, 3 times longer.
That explains why our cloudbelts revolve 3 times faster to be in synch.
In fact, the rotation speed of our sequence has been accelerated more than 1 million times! That is what it takes to animate the surface of Jupiter.
For the team

Hello,
Here is an image taken on June 18, 2014 in Stoneham (Quebec, Canada) with a Canon 60D and a Tokina 11-16mm lens. It's a stack of 44x30 seconds sub-frames. In the lower portion of the image, you can see hundred of fireflies during mating season. You can also see startrails and the celestial equator.

Dream that comes true
“If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe.”
― Carl Sagan
*****
The small dome keeps the dream of anyone who loves the observational astronomy, a telescope which was commissioned in 1906 to the house known as Carl Zeiss Jena, Germany. The lovely Carl Zeiss comet hunter team which conducted Delavan observations of comets 1913. Has a 20cm refractor lens diameter and a focal length of 138 cm (f/6.9), with a rotary device that allows you to use 3 eye pieces alternately and an equatorial mount, the most beautiful part of this piece of art is a hand wheel chair really that is connected to the dome via a cable, allows the viewer to turn the dome without leaving its position.
Over 100 years ago Comets "Delavan" were discovered with this telescope

Sun yo-yo:
This is a animation with one year photos of the sunset taken near of my home, Cáceres-Spain, with a compact camera. Once each week I walked to the Sierrilla hill with my dogs and took one photo when the Sun just touched the horizon and registered the hour. As result I made one photo composition and animation where you can see how big is the amplitude of the sun movement between solstices: 70 degrees in azimut and 2 hours in time.

Solargraph taken from December 21st 2013 to June 21st 2014 (today) using a pinhole camera at the New Forest Observatory.
You can see the Sun's path across my southern horizon for the past 6-months together with the awful weather we've had.
You can also see the two New Forest Observatory domes, and the oval-shaped object in the middle foreground is the top of a Teak garden table.
