Radical Retinoscopy, on Flickr
A star trail photograph was made of seventy 10 second exposures. Each exposure was made with a 17-40L lens at 24 mm. (f/5.6, 400 ISO). The exposures were kept relatively short to abate the prominent light pollution in Phoenix.
The First Christian Church is located at 6750 N. 7th Avenue in north-central Phoenix. The church is an authentic Frank Lloyd Wright design that was finished in 1973. The characteristic spire rises to a height of seventy-seven feet and has become a Phoenix landmark. The design was commissioned for the Southwest Christian Seminary in 1949; however, construction was never initiated at that time. After Mr. Wright’s death the plans were released by his estate to facilitate construction by the First Christian Church in 1971.

NGC 5792 is a beautiful barred spiral galaxy about 83 million light-years away in the constellation Libra. In the distant background a wealth of faint galaxies dot the area and even 14 quasars lie within this narrow field of view.

Milky Way over sunflowers
It's a panorama image of 7 individual photoes taken at a sunflower field near Veszprem, Hungary. There's some orange coloured light pollution of Veszprem visible on the small clouds at the left side but between and above these clouds the very faint purple colouration is an aurora. (The aurora was also seen in the Czech Republic on the night of 15/16th July, and of course at many other places being closer to the magnetic north pole). I could not see the aurora but when checking my pics I noticed it on many of them taken in about 30 minutes. Later it disappeared. Crops were lit by a small pocket flashlight.
A cold front sweeped my sky clear so the seeing was very good that's why the Milky Way was so bright despite being only at 3 kms distance of my hometown.
Here's a bigger size version of the panorama pic:

Photo details: Nikon D5100 with 10mm Sigma lens, f2.8, ISO4000, 20 sec. expositions

I received a suggestion from someone on Google+ to post my recent (15 July) photo of Aurora Australis from Christchurch, New Zealand, on APoD. Copyright Gavin Treadgold, and yes, I give you permission to use it, should you choose
These colours weren't visible to the naked eye at the time, the colour was only achieved by a 20 second exposure. It was faint green to the naked eye.
