Boy, TNT, you're some taskmaster!! I posted the answers at 12:04 AM. Good thing I'd set an alarm for 11:30 PM each night this week, because I'd dozed off and the answers would have been a LOT later without it!

Yay, Sam! Yay, neptunium! Most excellent results! Which images tripped you up?

Seems two sets of images might have been too easy, and Tuesday's maybe a little harder than it should have been, hmm? I wonder what those coming from the cell library link thought about this quiz, and hope some of them will weigh in on it.

What would be a nice feature, I think--regardless of whether or not the quiz is resurrected as a daily with more questions--would be to set up a new page that is a quiz just with these five questions (and the answers on a different page!) so that new-comers can continue to stumble across and enjoy it. Shouldn't be too much trouble to set up, I would think.

Quiz redux

Just added a poll to the redux thread; is that too much? Should I leave it?

I was thinking that the images could be randomized and numbered, and the options for the poll would say

• Image 1 is cellular
• Image 1 is celestial
• Image 2 is cellular
• Image 2 is celestial
  
  ...
• Image 10 is cellular
• Image 10 is celestial

Just a suggestion. Food for thought.

Monday's picture 1 tripped me up-- I thought the cellular photo was too much like other sun pictures (perhaps at a different wavelength) to not be celestial. Basically, two years of reading APOD and Asterisk* daily taught me to recognize celestial; if I didn't recognize it, it must be cellular. Tuesday and Wednesday illustrate this point best.

I got Monday's image 1 and Thursday's image 2 wrong. The first one looked like the surface of a star, and the second one looked like a cell. However, Tuesday's image 2 was a lucky guess.

Thanks for the info, sam and neptunium; much appreciated! I would not have fared so well, I'm sure, though I've been looking at APODs for a good long time now AND have some experience -- way back there somewhere in my past -- looking at cells, too. (This was a fun quiz for me to work on, as it combines two of my interests very nicely.)

I guess most of the audience of the beautiful "quiz" is more or less "celestial-orientated"
wouldnt it be very interesting to do this quiz with the "cellular-people"?
and note the differences in the response....? if their are any?

The Cell: An Image Library had a link to this thread on its home page; it now has a link to the Quiz: Cellular or Celestial? Redux thread. Indeed, the quiz idea came from David Orloff, the manager of the Image Library. I hope those who came to the quiz from that site post about their experience taking this quiz, whether they enjoyed it, how they did, and whether they'd like to see additional similar quizzes.
