I think you;ve been sneaky in flipping it. And I think its quite a close crop due to the grainy nature of the photo, so this one makes sense to me.
Paul - I remember that APOD you chose, but alas, it is not the one
Also, Chris interpreted my original post correctly (thanks, Chris, for jumping in), I did not do anything sneaky - I only cropped the original, and I checked the pixel count was not reduced in the uploaded attachment. Believe me, the last thing I want is to alienate myself from the forum members and be known as a slimy, dishonest so and so.

It is up to date though, I don't know why no one is guessing it.

I guess I made it way too easy because alter-ego basically already answered it but he put it in a spoiler tag.

Sorry about the size, I had to use an online editor to get it cropped. Its only a crop and nothing else dodgy.

I also assumed that's what it was, but a cursory search didn't turn up any matching APODs.

So far BMAONE23 is closest, but not for reasons which you may think.

The rules are to provide a crop of an APOD or the click thru image. The only resizing permissible is due to the difference in resolution size of the APOD image and the original click thru image. The image must be from an APOD. The object, then, is to guess which APOD.

That image is not an APOD. It is found in a page linked from
this APOD, but that isn't an allowable mystery image.
