This is only the third year we've had goats kid. We're not experts. But apparently it's not uncommon up here for goats to kid in snow. The wet weather seems to act as a trigger. They're pretty robust animals, and might generally be fine. Birthing season in late February and early March means anything from spring weather to deepest winter.

Lovely kids, Chris. So glad you managed to save them all.

Hope Louise is doing better, too.

I previously had no idea that the global goat population was so out of control, having doubled in the last 50 years:

A mama cat who became separated from her kittens did everything in her power to be reunited with them.

Mill Road Vet Clinic in Whangarei, New Zealand shared the heartwarming and inspiring story at Facebook on October 14, writing:

MUM & KITTENS REUNITED!!

We have a heart-warming story for you this morning: Yesterday we found a box of kittens dumped on our front door. 3 tabby & white boys & a black tabby girl, about 3-4 weeks old. Of course we all fell in love with them & vet nurse Nicole took them home to care for them overnight.

This morning we noticed a tabby cat hanging around our front door, trying to sneak in every time a client arrived. When we realised it wasn’t going to go away, we picked her up & discovered she was a feeding Mum.
Then the penny dropped! Sure enough, we introduced her to the “orphan” kittens & there was a very happy reunion! Presumably she had been in the box too & escaped before we arrived for work. She’s probably been prowling around all night looking for her kidnapped kittens!

We’ll keep you posted on their progress. In due course we will need to find homes for them all. Mum & kittens are all completely adorable, so hopefully it won’t be difficult.

The Northern Advocate spoke with Mill Road vet Julie Wills for a story on mama cat and her kittens, who were estimated to be 3-4 weeks old when found.

“We took them in and got them all set up in the incubator. We all fell in love with them. We did have the option of taking them to the SPCA but decided because they were so adorable we were happy to look after them,” Wills told the Northern Advocate.

Wills said Mama kitty was desperate to get into the clinic the following morning.

“Even when dogs came through the door this cat was trying to muscle its way through.”

When mama was brought to her babies in the incubator: “She dived in there and was licking them and really excited to see them. Within minutes all the staff had abandoned their work and were watching.”

Assuming mama was left at the clinic with her kittens: “She would have been hanging around the clinic working out how to get in for 24 hours.”

The kittens remain together with their mama in foster care with a relative of a clinic staff member.

The kittens are expected to be ready for adoption in about 4 weeks.

This year's crop arrived a few hours ago. Two girls and a boy. Mother and kids all appear to be doing well.

Why are Goats the richest animals?
Because they can ALL afford to have their Kids raised by Nannies

Can you name one girl Selena, just after a moon goddess ?

The goats are fortunate to have Chris as their nanny :ssmile:

These goats are in our candy and sweets line, their mother being Hershey. So the kids are Godiva, Reese, and Truffle. Maybe we'll reserve Moon Pie for a future kid, though.

There can't be too many things more fun than taking your puppy out for his first hike.

Here's my pup Kaaju (which means cashew in HIndi). I'd originally named him Cosmo.

He just turned one last month. He's my baby, and he's a handful.
