I actually had few days of internet outage, then forgot about smo, then came back here and found that wonderboy is nominated for a winner. that's to explain why I didn't post anything.
As for the place the crop was taken from, I have noticed later that it was scaled down (probably from a screenshot in scale-to-fit mode), that's why I didn't find it in the image. Any way, I would have to think about new smo for some time so, if wonderboy has an image ready to post by now, why don't he post it..

I added a poll just for laughs. Nobody will know how anybody votes.

I still see results, even logged out.

Yes, results are visible, but I think that nobody can tell who voted for what.

Wonderboy -- was one of those poll choices correct? If so, which one? That will be a clue.

Thanks! Interesting clue. I still can't get it, myself. Would you please set up another poll that might, when finally revealed, give us another clue? Thanks if you can.

I can't believe that I've stumped the whole board, just about, with my very first one. I'll give another clue. Its a double sided picture.

I did general color search and found no match. I don't see how "double sided" hint is goint to help, so I will have to pass.

OK, to help move this along I put up another poll. Hopefully this will yield a new clue. wonderboy -- please feel free to edit this poll or come up with more polls yourself! - RJN

It was, of course, the alpha lyman blob. Search blob in the search box and its result number 1 or, alternatively, click the above link.

That's not the way the game works. You could have posted hints until somebody solved it. Since you solved it, you get to post the next one. New topic: What is it? Space mystery object #36

Agreed. If it takes three years to solve a puzzle, it takes three years. There's no reason to cut one off early just because it's hard.
I was disappointed. I don't have a lot of time to work on these, but I did spend a few minutes a day trying possibilities. I would have liked to keep trying.
GRED: Double slit with sharp eyed intruder

Guess the Result of the Experiment of the Day (GRED)
A classic double slit experiment is done with light (photons) that creates an interference pattern on a distant image screen. The experiment is repeated, except now a sharp-eyed intruder (person) places their head in front of the image screen and looks toward the slits. The person's eyesight is good enough to discern each slit individually.
Code: Select all
| O |
s | -|- |
| / \ |
Photon Double Sharp Image
Source Slit Eyed Screen
Screen Person
Will the sharp-eyed person see a net flux from the slits that corresponds to the interference pattern behind them? In other words, is the net flux the same at any position regardless of whether the detector is an eye or a screen?
Please do NOT post any answers or comments with spoilers here. Answers and comments with spoilers are encouraged in GRED Answer post here:
http://asterisk.apod.com/vie ... 30&t=19721 . Please check back there later -- what I believe to be the correct answer will be posted there a few days after this initial post.
Comments or questions here -- without spoilers -- are OK. In particular, questions about the experimental setup are OK.
