I think someone has some explaining to do!
Well, I'm not inclined to explain (since it would violate the Prime Directive of time travelers). I'll only point out a few details: I posted my challenge 11 days before the APOD showed up, this was a first run image, and there were at least two APODs in the intervening time that listed "open space" for the following day, meaning that TPTB had not yet decided what to run (and I don't think they plan out more than a few days ahead, in any case). And for the record, I had no contact with the author of the image in advance, nor with the APOD editors.

If nothing else, this should demonstrate the difficulties in trying to find time travelers by looking at computer records (or it supports finding them, as you prefer).

How did you know that image would run at all?

It seems like someone noticed my fap thread :) Like, right now there are APODs for May 9 and 10 (but not 8). My thread was quickly removed (actually, hidden in admin forum); apparently it is perfectly fine to pick up secret URLs from google but not from asterisk. I say, RJN should try a bit harder to hide it.

The fap preview pages only go a few days out at most. Never 11.

That's what most people get. The link should probably be removed.

wonderboy, in the first post on this page, Chris has said my answer is "(The correct answer)."

The mystery of how he did this remains; I suspect we will never get a satisfactory answer out of him!

I'd love it if someone solved the last Diversion, but in the absence of anyone's taking that on, here's what is or will be what I suspect is an easy SMO, especially for Chris! :D

Don't you think that by revealing himself as time traveller, Chris might have changed owlice thoughts flow, so she can now post completely different picture?
Colors kinda match todays apod but I don't see where the crop is from

Chris has clearly known that Owlice would pick that part of Mimas to crop, went to the future and acosted all the necessary technology to walk on mimas and not die, he has then went back in time to before this photo was taken and wiped the markings which Owlice has cropped, thats why you can't find it :P

Damn and Blast, he has changed it back again. It is defo Mimas, whether or not it is this Apod remains to be seen, the image on todays Apod IMO is slightly different. But if you click on the Apod to get it to its maximum resolution, it is the crater at 11 o'clock to the main crater that is pictured in Owlice's post.

Thank you all

Paul.

I suppose I should have answered this days ago; my apologies! Yes, it's Mimos.

This thread is so many pages that it is now hard to see with my iPhone-type device, which runs an app that does not have pagination. So I sit there scrolling with my finger until passersby conclude that I am weirder than I really am. Would it be possible to start a new thread with each new object?

Another suggestion: might a poll of possible objects be included to start? Then more people might follow than those willing to sort through hundreds of APODs. The enquizinator might then give the answer to the poll without giving the whole answer, possibly following again this with a more narrow poll, each poll then being a clue.

I'd prefer that (and I don't use a portable browser). It's how it was originally, with each new mystery object created as a new topic. Much easier to follow, IMO, then having all of them mixed into a single topic.

I think the original intent of this thread was to have solved SMOs on it, with new ones appearing in their own (new) thread. Once solved, those posts would be merged into this thread. Perhaps that can be done with the next SMO, which is wonderboy's to post.

Yes, that was my intent. This was to be a repository for solved SMOs. The solved SMO wouldn't be merged until the new one is launched.

bystander, perhaps the title of this thread could be changed to reflect that it is for solved (archived) SMOs, rather than current ones; what think ye?

Actually, it was makc who solved it. So, makc, are you going to post #34 (new topic)?
