M51 in H-alpha and continuum light (finale version)

M51 (also known as Whirlpool Galaxy) are two interacting galaxies in constellation Canes Venatici. The larger one (M51A or NGC 5194) is a spiral galaxy, the smaller companion (M51B or NGC 5195) is a distorted a dwarf galaxy.

The image is calculated with and without H-alpha information. By toggling between the two variants the correlation between HII gas clouds and bluish regions (containing young stars and probably also OIII gas) can be visualized.

If this was space chess, this dark knight rising poses as a formidable force to be reckoned with. The former chess grandmaster Anatoly Karpov once said "Chess is everything: Art, Science and Sport." This scene is therefore an epitome to Art, Science and Sport too. Art for the aesthetics, science for the knowledge and sport for the various topics of speed, distance, time, mass, and pressure!

This capture of the Horsehead Nebula (Barnard-33) was taken on the night of 25 September, 2022 at Brisbane, Australia. The colour palette I chose shifted the red Hydrogen-alpha and beta tones towards the orange spectrum for aesthetics. I feel this colour better contrasts the nebula dust and gas clouds around the Horsehead and reveals the streaming charged gases along the magnetic field rising above.

Hello I’m glad to share my picture of Rho Ophiuchi. Rho Ophiuchi is one of my favorite part of the sky because of its colors ! I already tried to catch it before but the result was quite less good. Since I acquired the RedCat 51 this target was on the top of my todo list. In June I went for an astrophotography trip in La Palma and at this occasion I did my photography.

La Palma island in Canary, is a very well known location by the astrophotographers. Indeed the sky conditions are outstanding enough that it’s considered as one of the best spot of the north hemisphere for astronomy. It’s a Volcanic island that hosts several international telescopes regrouped into a park called Roque de los Muchachos that is located on the top of the caldeira at 2400m.

The sky was so good there that the process was very easy. I use the Sky Adventurer mount with the Redcat 51, and It was only my second attempt with this equipment so I decided to not expose too long (45 sec) to avoid any star trail. Now that I have experimented it a little more I know that I can expose until 3 minutes. I shot 211 pictures in total and I took 90% of the best pics which give a final photo with 2h22 exposure.

Settings : ISO 8000 - f/4.9 - 45 sec

Carina Nebula from world-famous observatories in Chile - Anil Monnier

As I live in the Northern Hemisphere, creating this was a really long and challenging project. I had the opportunity to take this picture during my university exchange in Chile, under the overwhelming and prehistoric night sky of the Atacama Desert.
I had for goal: “different imaging location for each filter/channel” and I got very spoiled. The Hydrogen Alpha and Red filter were used on the amazing El Sauce Observatory site. The Green channel was gathered on La Silla Observatory’s airstrip, and finally, the Blue one was taken on the Observatorio del Pangue site. Just next to where Gemini South, SOAR, Vera C. Rubin, and Tololo Inter-American Observatories operate. It was truly dark out there. Really seeing how obscure space can be in contrast with the unbelievable Milky Way brightness. Really made us realize the beauty of our night sky and how much light pollution can cover all of this… we should really start thinking about how to preserve this view of the world.

The Danube Bend (Dunakanyar) is often considered as one of the most beautiful part of river Danube, where it flows between Börzsöny Mountain and Visegrád Mountain. Standing at the foot of Börzsöny Mountain atop the lights of Nagymaros village was a perfect location for capturing the 99% full moonrise above Visegrád Mountain.
As the Moon -- Jupiter pair was climbing up on the Eastern horizon, a not-so-faint mock moon became visible on the left side of the Moon.

Between 1323 and 1408 Visegrád was the capital of Hungarian Kingdom. Today only the ruins remained of the Citadel of Visegrád Castle atop Visegrád Mountain.

The Lescours mill (commune of Saint-Aubin-de-Branne, next to Bordeaux), lost in the middle of vineyards, far from the light pollution of cities, stands in front of the "bulb" of our galaxy, the Milky Way.
.
This area of the sky, visible to the south in summer, corresponds to the "heart" of our galaxy. It contains numerous nebulae, most of which radiate in the infrared. Hence the need to 'defilter' the camera in order to capture these wavelengths that are invisible to the naked eye.
.
The image also shows many dark dust clouds and countless stars and star clusters. Among them, Rho Ophiuchi, a multicoloured star-forming area...(visible on the right of the mill)
.
This image was made with the Sigma 28mm f/1.4 ! Very suitable lens for astrophotography.

ROAD TO THE GALAXY CENTER

When I was driving a car through national park of Cape Greco trying to find a good place for astro-landscapes, I suddenly bumped into this tree. I could not resist this wonderful view and I knew I will get back here at night to capture milky way. I am in love with this tree landscape and I really like end result. Hope you like this. Photo taken in Cyprus in Cape Greco National Park at the end of July 2022.

The Lion Nebula: Sh2-132

Very faint emission nebula between the constellations Cepheus and Lizard. It is located about 11,000 a.l from us and has a size of more than 250 a.l. This nebula contains two Wolf-Rayet stars: WR 153ab near the "wall" structure in the Lion's Head and WR 152 in the blue-dominated part of the nebula. Wolf-Rayet stars are very large, bright, hot stars with strong solar winds. These winds are so strong that they expel a large amount of mass from the stars, something like 10 solar masses per million years. The extreme nature of Wolf-Rayet stars always dominates nearby regions and lightens the surrounding area.

Story - when the winter comes orion constellation is back to the northern night skies along with Rosette nebula , horsehead nebula ,Barnard's Loop nebula, California Nebula, and the Pleiades Star Cluster,

the vision was to capture Orion & Aurora at the same time, which is a hard mission and a rare event, all condition need to align, because Aurora is moving fast, the conditions where perfect Aurora was Dancing slow and orion part was clear skies, my vision finally came true in iceland northern lights with a deep space objects in the same frame to document a rare moments of the nights sky, this vision and capture took place in my latest photo tour trip into iceland i was waiting to orion to rise over the magical northern lights in bortle 2 skies near Vestrahorn in Hofn iceland i was saying Hello to orion from the North pole.
