"Flying through Clouds"

There is no better place to be taking photos of the sky than Roque de los Muchachos in La Palma, Spain. Surrounded by one of the biggest telescopes in the world, we could see how the clouds were blending with the valley. A spectacular show in which you can appreciate how big the universe we live in is.

Human beings are exploring the universe hundreds of years, but only several men could leave our planet earth to the closest celestial body, the moon. All the time, we are looking at them using telescopes our naked eyes. When will we do the real exploring in this gigantic world, and when could we get into contact with life in exoplanets? So, I proposed this scenery to show this hope, as a modest creature facing to so many unknowns, that one day we travel to others stars and their planets, to know more and more.

NGC 7538, near the more famous Bubble Nebula, is located in the constellation Cepheus. It is located about 9,100 light-years from Earth. It is home to the biggest yet discovered protostar which is about 300 times the size of the Solar System. It is located in the Perseus Spiral Arm of the Milky Way.

Mars retrograde loop I'm french and I hope that you will excuse my poor English.

This picture is just a "teaser" made with wide field shots (50mm) from february to august. The final picture is still under construction with smaller fields (135mm) and a better background of long-exposure stars (with an equatorial mount).

My project was to do this long term survey with a very simple set-up and short shoot sessions : a full-frame APN (EOS 6D) mounted on a tripod with a zoom (28-135mm) at 135mm (main project 45x4s exposures 6400 ISO 5.6), 50mm or 28mm for wide fields (10s/4.5 or 15s/3.5 respectively).

All pictures were taken from my home in Perigord (France) except two : 29/03 from Cadaquès (Spain) and 30/08 from Ahetze (Basque country, France).

Natural anaglyph in the sky I'm french and I hope that you will excuse my poor English.

Few minutes before this picture, from the car park of my favourite minimarket, I saw a beautiful irised cloud with a bird shape but I had no camera with me and I return home (in Périgord, France) to take few pictures but the "bird" had flied away... This one is more like a running elephant with a dust trail. The left image is "raw" directly from the camera, the right image after a levels correction in Photoshop, and image 2 a cropped frame form this last.

I think it's something like a parhelia due to icy clouds but I never saw such large colored surfaces before. My attention was first attracted to clouds because of their special shapes like feathers or leafs :

Referred to as a double barred spiral galaxy and at over 100 Million light years distant, NGC 7098 isn't a close galaxy
and it also isn't particularly large in angular size, listed in LEDA at a modest 4.2' X 2.7' in size, so, some good seeing
conditions proved a real blessing in revealing some of the tiny subtle features in the ring of the galaxy. The field is
also filled with very faint Milky Way Galactic Cirrus dust.

The Flintstone's telescope
When it take something more than counterweights forgotten at home to scupper a night of observation at your favourite place...

Who has not ever forgotten to take an important component at a night session? It use to happen after a long distance journey to the darker, transparent and most peaceful site you ever remind.
The hard life of amateur astronomer sometimes requires large doses of ingenuity to solve small problems that would otherwise ruin a fantastic night.

NGC 7331 and Beyond

NGC 7331 (also known as Caldwell 30) is a spiral galaxy about 40 million light-years (12 Mpc) away in the constellation Pegasus. It was discovered by William Herschel in 1784.NGC 7331 is the brightest member of the NGC 7331 Group of galaxies.

The galaxy is similar in size and structure to the galaxy we inhabit, and is often referred to as "the Milky Way's twin", although recent discoveries regarding the structure of the Milky Way may call this similarity into doubt.
