On bottom left, white dome is the solar telescope CLIMSO. On bottom right we can barely see 1m telescope dome used by the NASA to map Moon during Apollo missions.
At the center of the view, there is the summer triangle.
On top we can see an airglow and light pollution of Tarbes lowland (fr).
I used a sony alpha 900 on tripod (no stars traking) 20s/3200iso 18mm/f3.5

Dear deep-sky image friends,

today I'd like to show my latest image of Heart & Soul - IC1805 + IC1848.
You also can find the famous double cluster h/chi Persei
in the lower left, as well as some planetaries, for example Sharpless 200 in the upper right.

NGC 1672
Image
Full resolution image here shows many faint galaxies, some visible through the disk of NGC 1672.

Data for this image was collected by the following 1m telescopes operated by the Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope (LCOGT) Network: 1m-04, 1m-05 and 1m-09 located at Cerro Tololo, Chile. The Principal Investigator for this data set was BJ Fulton. I used data from the public archive of the observatory.

Individual images acquired with the following filters were stacked to generate the final image.
Red: SDSS I' (centered at 7545 and with a width of 1290 Angstroms): 66x 5 mins
Green: Bessell V (centered at 5448 and with a width of 840 Angstroms): 89 x 5 mins
Blue: Bessell B (centered at 4361 and with a width of 890 Angstroms): 67 x 5 mins

New kid on the block!
This lightweight camera has a Linux computer on board for controlling everything,
I was able to frame, focus and program the sequence via my mobile/WiFi and
collct the data later with the laptop from indoors. It also controls your guidecam
and allows for dithering the frames.

a happy 2016 and cs to all

Hi.

Image

Curious effect that occurs in a long exposure photography due to the rotation of the earth.
This effect occurs only if we are oriented to the east or west. Called celestial Ecuador.
The total time of this photograph is 50 minutes

Winter sky in Kalahari desert
Copyright: Petr Horalek
This intimate view I was witnessed from Kalahari desert last year, as I was capturing the winter sky from Botswana. The image was capturen in windy night from 12 to 13 September 2015, which was followed by unique partial solar eclipse the very next morning. The sky was full of the brightest stars – Sirius, Achernar and Canopus. Faint part of the rising Milky Way showed up above the dusty horizon with numerous emission nebulae like Gum nebula (Vela), the Barnard’s loop (Orion), Rosetta nebula (Monoceros) or the California nebula (Perseus), unfortunately no visible to human eyes but yes to sensitive camera. Just behind tree where the right part of the Milky Way continues over the horizon, there you can notice reddish Carina nebula too. And – of course – two majestic Magellanic clouds, just over the car. There was no other sound then the whispering wind and all the farm Dqae Qare was deeply sleeping, including my friends in the car tent. This intimate view belonged only to me and I felt the need to share with you. So here it is… More and the image in higher resolution: http://www.astronom.cz/horalek/?p=1844

Stargazing at the largest meteorite
Copyright: Petr Horálek
In the Namibian northern region Onjozondjupa, there is so much to see. But probably the most tempting is the largest found iron meteorite in the world. The Hoba West meteorite, as it’s named after a close farm, is one of the most astronomical sightseeing in Namibia and logically belongs to the national natural heritage. The stone from the inner Solar system fell on the African ground about 80 thousand years ago. However, the discovery came in 1920, when the owner of the land, Jacobus Hermanus Brits, encountered the object while ploughing one of his fields with an ox. During this task, he heard a loud metallic scratching sound and the plough came to an abrupt halt. First estimates talked about 85 tons of its weight, but due to many factors (including human intervention) cause the current weight is much lesser, about 60 tons. As the meteorite is flat (2.7×2.7×0.9 meters big) and composed of about 84% iron and 16% nickel, people love to stand on its surface. Actually, it’s great experience, because if you stay on it in the middle of the small amphitheater, you can hear sound echoes of your voice. But probably the most amazing moment is in a time of standing on this cosmic intruder on the ground, and gazing the stars up above. You can literally feel how the civilization is fragile and, by breathing the air around, you thank to the nature for giving us the atmosphere, the protective shield against many other stones from the Earth’s surrounding.
