However, am I the only one who thinks that's not astronomy?
Perhaps we could rename APOD to Astronomer's Picture of the Day. Then instead of arguing about the content, we could argue whether or not it was posted by an astronomer on any given day.

Boy, you're living in a fantasy world if you think that would stop the whiners...

The Whiners, as you have taken to calling them, dislike this pejorative name you have given them. You will not so easily dispel this fantasy, Mr. Chris Peterson, destroyer of worlds and King of Jerk Mountain. ;)

<<Professor John Frink is generally depicted as Springfield's stereotypical nerdy, mad, and socially inept scientist, inventor, and mathematician. He wears thick glasses, a white lab coat, pink pants, and has buckteeth. Frink is a college professor at Springfield Heights Institute of Technology and runs his own astronomical observatory. He has an IQ of 197 — 199 before he sustained a concussion during the collapse of Springfield's brief intellectual junta — and is a member of the Springfield chapter of Mensa. Frink is generally very polite and friendly. He has a trademark mannerism of using Jerry Lewis-style gibberish when excited, such as "HOYVIN-GLAVIN!" and "FLAVIN" and impulsively shouting other words that have no relevance to the situation at hand. He also occasionally refers to the importance of remembering to "carry the one" in various mathematical calculations. When he rambles he often speaks incoherently in run-on sentences without pauses. Frink also has a tendency to over-complicate simple matters and/or invent scientific terminology while expressing various concepts, e.g. "Father and I got along like positrons and antineutrinos!" or, "microcalifragilistics".>>

Did I say whiner? I meant wiener. Or perhaps what my wife, who is British, would call a whinging wiener.

Destroyer of worlds... I like that, but I'm a lowly meteoriticist, not a nuclear physicist.

Nuclear physics can't touch the worlds you destroy.

Well, it's what astronomers quite often see when they look up to see the stars.

I don't think I'm the only one who thinks it's good we have an atmosphere.

The Vimeo video was no longer being embedded, as seen from my Chrome browser. So I went to the Vimeo site, copied the new embed code, and updated the APOD text. - RJN
