Ha-ha, Orin, i just realized that I'm standing right next to you. I was thinking the day after, but because you had the wrong day, i just followed along and put the day after what you had...the 13th. So if you had a brain fart, then i must have had a double-stinker. ::insert P.U. smilie(?) here::

Actually, the current b'ak'tun ends on 2012 Dec 20 (12.19.17.19.19) and a new one begins on 2012 Dec 21 (13.0.0.0.0). So, if we are here on the 21st, I think we're safe. If you are planning a gala doomsday party, better have it on th 20th, or you may miss it. All the doomsday prognosticators have it wrong, as usual. Besides the 20th makes for a palindromic doomsday (2012 12 20), which I'm sure is what the Mesoamericans had in mind.

We are supposed to have an end-of-term ceremony on December 21. But if the world has come to an end on December 20, I might be excused for not attending it!

I never understood why the ending of calenders in December implies the end of the world. Up to now, my calenders always ended in December and I could always buy a new one that starts in January.

In my hometown, firemen sell calenders for charity where they themselves pose wearing very little clothes. They do, however, often cuddle cats which they have rescued from trees!

They cuddle cats which they rescue from trees "wearing very little clothes" :?:

That sounds dangerous.

You are mistaken. There is only one year, and it repeats in an infinite cycle. You've actually never bought a calendar, and never will. You just have that memory. When the 2012 calendar runs out this month, we'll be back at January 1, 2012... totally unaware if the infinite number of times we've already been around this track.

If the world does end on 12-21-12 at least it is on a friday.
If 12-21-12 arrives on the USA West coast then all is likely clear because it is already 12-22-12 in Australia and the world didn't end

12-22-12 arrives in Australia at 1PM GMT

Since the Mayan civilization was mostly in the Yucatán Peninsula and the countries of Belize and Guatemala, we should probably use their time zone (UTC−06:00) which is the same as Central Standard Time in the US. In fact, all of what is known as Mesoamerica falls within the Central Time Zone.

See what happens when the scope of your project stretches too far into the future? Future dwellers have to deal with interpreting your vast overconfidence about the project surviving that long. Reminds me of Yucca Mountain. The waste repository was a feasible project until everyone got caught up on the idea that it had to last for 10,000 years.

that I will wager $10,000 to $1 that the end won't happen then :!:

Safest bet in the world. If it ends, you don't have to pay. If it doesn't end, you still don't have to pay

Good bet! I'll make that bet, too! :D

Now I'll just have to find some one who'll bet against me, so that I can collect those $10,000! :D
