Re: Submission Gallery: Jupiter-Venus Conjuction/Mars Opposi
Hey Guys,
Here are my Conjunction submissions:
Mid-March 2012 presents the best time to see a Venus-Jupiter conjunction in the evening for years to come. At mid-northern latitudes, these two brightest planets – Venus and Jupiter – stay out for nearly four hours after sunset. That’s about the longest period possible at these latitudes. You can’t miss these two worlds in the west as darkness falls. M45, also known as the Pleiades, is also visible right above these 2 planets along with the faint milky way on the right.
Higher Quality images available.

Copyright: Dario Giannobile @ildiora This image was created on 3/13/2012 when venus and jupiter were at minimum distance. It is a kind of startrail. It was done by 28 snapshots with a time distance of 1 min. The first snapshot was done during the blue hour. No color correction was applied and the cross around Venus is a diffraction effect made by placing a cross (two copper wires) in front of the lens like it were a newtonian telescope. In the diffraction spikes can also be visible a rainbow like effect. No PP effect was added except for a small noise reduction.
Best regards

Venus and Jupiter from Colorado
All the images were made on March 15.
Jupiter and Venus above John Sisko's sculpture, Taurus. The actual constellation of Taurus, of course, is just above the planet, outside the frame. Above the pines. A longer exposure, which just captures a hint of zodiacal light, as well as the Pleiades.

Re: Submission Gallery: Jupiter-Venus Conjuction/Mars Opposi
Here's an image of Mars from 17 March 0325ut (the evening of March 16) taken under excellent seeing and showing a very interesting orographic cloud over Olympus Mons. The peak of the great volcano is peaking out of the clouds and the base of the great shield dome is outlined as well. The Tharsis region is just disappearing over the setting limb.

Re: Submission Gallery: Jupiter-Venus Conjuction/Mars Opposi
This view doesn't look out of the ordinary - unless you know that it was taken just off the northernmost point of continental Europe, Norway's Cape Nordkinn at 71° North (from the Hurtigrurten's Kong Harald). May be useful for astronomy teaching by comparing the position angle between Venus und Jupiter with images taken around the same time - March 18 at 17:45 UTC (much) farther south.
