Well, the wikipedia article pretty much says it all. Here's the dummy version as it applies in this instance: A handy, dandy little piece of the image header which, if inspected, reveals all sorts of nifty information about the camera and how a photo was taken. Oftentimes it gets lost when an image is changed and resaved with an program which fails to preserve the header.
Just call me "geck" because "zilla" is like a last name.

Ok, i just read the intro and not the full explanation, after the last post, so i didn't realize that some programs didn't save the header. But what do i know about cameras? I've got a canon A490 digital sitting here for a while now and i still don't know how to use it. Well.......one of these days.................

What i want to know is -- how come owlice's Puddy Tat has orange eyes in the picture?

It's because cats have a tapetum lucidum structure in their retinas, and the camera had a flash.
