That's in the original. A coincidental stroke of the brush.

Jeff wrote:I found at least 15 things. Are you going to post the answer? Will you make available the collage in say an 10X12 or 12X18 poster format. I would buy it to hang on my wall. This is SUPER.
I also eagerly await a poster format of this, though I can appreciate the original, hanging this in my house would be infinitely more awesome.

Do I spy with my little eyes...the Horse Head Nebula just above and to the right of Thor's Helmut?

I thought the one in the lower left was the Crab Nebula?! And right smack in the middle, is that two colliding galaxies?

Oooo I also see the Owl nebula. Is the big spiral galaxy M74? This is just very cool!

It looks like there is a small satellite below the Eskimo Nebula

Hey, thanks, Ronnie. That would be great. But might I suggest you wait until tomorrow's APOD is posted.
Congratulations on your recent promotion, Ensign.

Einstein Cross above the church in the background.
Bottom left: Thor's Helmut
The swirl in the centre is the antennae
To the bottom right of the antennae is one of the pillars of creation from the Eagle Nebula (someone said Orion, which is not the case!) Beside that is the Pinwheel galaxy.
The reddish part near the crescent moon is actually the eclipsed moon.
Someone said Saturn's Galilean moons, it's not Saturn, it's Jupiter that has them. (I don't see them either way)
Supernova 1987A
The Ant Nebula
The Cat's Eye
The Crab Nebula
The Witch Head Nebula
The Eskimo
I'm not sure of the number, but there is a galaxy to the bottom left of the antennae
The green object next to the antennae appears to be an accretion disk
False-colour Sombrero
Hale-Bopp
There's a picture in one of the houses of people and a globe.
I'm trying to figure out the big object to the left of the tower. it looks like a comet, but I'm not sure that it is.
I see more, but have to think about what they are!

Wow, Galactic_Kitten, way to go!
You have way too much time on your hands.
Now, can you identify the APODs the images came from?

Anybody identifies this object?
http://www.apodcatala.com/lib/object.jpg
It’s on the upper right corner.
I guessed that it’s Saturn and its Galilean Moons, but right now I think that I’m wrong.

I think to the right of the Antennae is exactly one of the "pillars of creation" from the Eagle Nebula, you can see the "red dot" in the bottom of the "pillar", as in this picture
http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap100328.html
Beside this pillar is the Cartwheel Galaxy, not the Pinwheel Galaxy.
http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap981219.html
The Pinwheel Galaxy (Messier 101) is in the bottom left of the Antennae, as you wrote below:
Galactic_Kitten wrote:

And it is the original picture of the Pinwheel Galaxy, which is used in this picture

I see that there are 2 comets in this picture.
The bigger comet in the left of the tree is Hale-Bopp
The smaller comet in the right of the tree is C/2009 R1 (McNaught), the original picture should be the APOD on 07 June 2010:

The letters say HL not hi!
And I see a wormhole, Saturn, of course the Southern Cross, an active black hole and I was amazed at how well the Vermeer looks in the window. Of course my magnification is at 200X right now. I couldn't find it before I magnified!
his is beautiful. I still have the tapestry you put up many years ago, as one of my computer desktop backgrounds. You do a wonderful job of educating and bringing home the beauty of space and of our planet and home star. Thank you. PS would be nice if you did put in a separate area the answers to everything the author intended us to see (I bet our individual imaginations will let us see more!) so that we can really work this as a puzzle. Congratulations APOD on your 15 years! Thank you for your hard work.

I'm wondering what size this picture was painted to be able to get all the different things in. The people in the house are done really well. They look real until they are magnified a lot, then they go to pot. Must have something to do with how they were converted to be able to post them here.
Apod is 15 yrs old this week? Uh-oh, here comes those middle teen years!!

The thing in the lower left looks like Thor's Helmet. It looks kinda creepy when you see it in the bushes.

Is it just me, or are there colliding galaxies in the middle of the painting?
And a red giant in the top right?

I think that the top left object, just above the Witch Head Nebula is the Rosette Nebula
But I am not sure

I found a strange object just on the right of the tree
This object dosen't appear in the original Starry Night
It looked like the Huygens probe en-routing to Titan
(just for fun)
